Welcome to the Institute for Distance Learning

In creating the Institute for Distance Learning (FSI - Fernstudieninstitut), the Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL) has established one dedicated institute for its distance learning programmes. Ten years ago, the Institute for Distance Learning (FSI) started a Master in European Administrative Management. In 2008 it launched the Master in Public Administration and, from the winter semester 2010/11, these two programmes are to be joined by the Master of Security Management.

Research into educational needs suggests that, as lifetime learning becomes the norm, there will be a ten-fold increase in the demand for part-time university courses. Here, distance learning will be a main plank - and the FSI already has successful programme designs. A learning platform provides media-supported E-learning while especially prepared distance learning material enables students to independently acquire the knowledge they need and the overall learning process is supported by face-to-face communication in blocks of lectures and seminars. Not only is this form of studying ideal for students working full-time, it is also widely considered the learning method of the future. The Institute for Distance Learning has also retained its focus on personally mentoring students.
